Travel Patients Check-List

Before Travel

✓ Pre-op medical clearance, labs, and EKG obtained (often necessary for patients above 50 years old)

✓ Schedule confirmed with surgery center

✓ Hotel booked (click here for information about our special rates)

✓ Travel plans made

✓ We require having a travel partner / family-member present during the trip

✓ Prescriptions dropped off at pharmacy

✓ Surgery center will go over precise arrival time and pre-op instructions (e.g. no eating/drinking after midnight)

✓ Ensure any outstanding balance is paid (click here for options)

✓ Touch base with Dr. Cober by phone or in-person visit may be arranged

✓ Follow travel precautions (see below)

✓ Schedule tele-health with Dr. Cober 1-2 weeks post-op (click here -- there is no charge for post-op patients)

✓ Follow post-op instructions (click here for sample instructions)

✓ Personalized travel instructions will be given, examples include:

Leg exercises for airplane rides (calf raises and knee extensions)
Aspirin for patients at moderate risk of DVT
Anticoagulant such as lovenox injectable or xarelto for patients at high risk of DVT

✓ When driving, stop every 1-2 hours to walk around (e.g. hydrate and use the restroom)
